Trust for Working Landscapes (TWL) is hosting a farm walk this Sunday, March 29th at 2 pm. This free, approximately 1-1/2 hour tour will wander through several farm properties with spectacular pastoral and mountain views. Come see the largest contiguous working farmland area in Kitsap County! We will provide an overview of various ongoing farm projects and can answer questions about public farmland properties. Tour begins at the Day Road farm stand on the south side of Day Road East. Sturdy shoes are recommended.

There has been tremendous interest in the p-patches at Johnson Farm and all of the plots are taken. If you are still interested and would like to be on a waiting list, please contact Christy Carr. If there is significant interest, additional p-patches may be added in the future.

Also, we have a list of several private property owners who would welcome you to garden on their property. These properties would be available this growing season. If this is a situation that may fit your gardening needs, please contact us for a list of available garden properties and contact information. So many ways to get growing!

The Bainbridge Island Historical Society and Museum presents Dr. Olaf Ribeiro conducting an Arbor Day Tree Walk of the heritage and champion trees of Winslow. This will not only provide tree identification and facts, but also present an interesting historical aspect of our heritage, giving perspective to the considered value and thought that went into the planting of these trees, some from over 100 years ago. It will also be insightful information in light of the ongoing issue of tree removal for purposes of development.

The Sustainable First Monday on March 2nd on community gardens was a huge success! Noted local garden experts including Ann Lovejoy, Peg Tillery and Chuck Estin joined Sandy Pernitz from the Seattle P-Patch program to provide the group with inspiring and informative visions for growing local food close to home. A number of locations were identified as existing or potential future community gardens. Seeds planted during the gathering included: Do you want a p-patch? Do you want to create a community garden? Do you have land you’d like to share? Would you “Grow a Row” for Helpline?

The community garden discussion will continue. For now, we encourage you to keep checking back at our website and check in at Sound Food’s website.

There are also two community resource sheets available (follow the links to download the documents):
